Savory Beef Stew


Here is the kind of meal you need as the weather starts to turn cooler. It has a wonderful aroma and flavor (thanks to a couple of unusual ingredients). And it can cook while you're away, so it's ready when you arrive.

2 T Flour
1 lb Beef Stew Meat,Cubed
2 T Oil
4 Potatoes,Cubed
4 Carrot,Sliced
1 Onion,Coarsely Chopped
1 c Low Sodium Beef Broth
1 cn No Salt Added Tomatoes
1/2 c Water
2 T Brown Sugar
1 T Worcestershire
1 T Vinegar
1 1/2 t Instant Coffee
1 t Cumin
1/2 t Ginger
1/4 t Ground Allspice

Place flour in plastic bag. Add beef and shake to coat. Brown on all sides in hot oil. Place potatoes, carrots, and onion in a crockery cooker. Top with meat. Mix together remaining ingredients. Pour over meat and vegetables. Cover and cook on low 8 to 10 hours or on high 4 to 5 hours.
