Showing You How To Give Up Sodium Without Giving Up Your Life

Original Chex Mix

This is a close to original version of the Chex mix snack mix. All the same things i talked about in the spicy mix recipe apply here too. Use unsalted nuts, unsalted pretzels and low sodium cereal. Chex cereal contains quite a bit of sodium, but you can readily find substitutes like mini shredded wheat and sodium free versions of Cherrios. There are a number of good commercial seasoning mixes that contain no salt, such as those from Mrs. Dash, frontier and Mr. Spice.

6 T Unsalted Margarine
2 T Worcestershire
1 1/2 t Salt Free Seasoning Mix
1/2 t Onion Powder
3/4 t Garlic Powder
1/2 lb Pecans,Unsalted
1/2 lb Dry Roasted Peanuts,Unsalted
8 oz Pretzels,Unsalted
3 c Mini Shredded Wheat
3 c Oat Cereal,Low Sodium

Melt margarine. Add seasonings and stir. Combine nuts and pretzels in a large bowl. Pour sauce over and stir to coat. Stir in cereal and mix well. Bake at 275 for 3 hour, stirring occasionally.
