Fresh Tomato Meat Sauce

A little different variation on spaghetti sauce. We usually have the kids all home for Sunday dinner and you know how much late teen/early 20's boys can eat, so this makes a large batch. You can freeze the leftovers if you like. As you might guess, this was developed when the tomatoes in the garden were producing in quantity. The sausage recipe is included separately here.

1 lb Ground Beef
1/2 lb Italian Sausage
1 Onion,Chopped
1 Green Bell Peppers,Chopped
1/2 lb Mushroom,Sliced
1 T Minced Garlic
2 T Olive Oil
15 Tomatoes
6 cn No Salt Added Tomato Paste
2 T Oregano
1 T Basil
2 T Parsley
1/2 c Red Wine

Crumble beef and sausage into a large skillet. Add onions, pepper and mushrooms. Cook until meat is done. Immerse tomatoes in boiling water for about 30 seconds. Drain, peel and chop finely. In a large Dutch oven, sauté garlic powder in olive oil until lightly browned, about 2 minutes. Add tomatoes, tomato paste, spices, wine and meat/veggie mixture. Simmer slowly until desired thickness, 1 to 2 hours.
